BOYS AND GIRLS STARTER STICK RECOMMENDATIONS

Boys sticks

  • StringKing Complete 2 Jr (not Starter) - MSRP $100
    • Complete Sticks for Youth Lacrosse | The Best Youth Sticks | StringKing
    • Legal through 10u
    • Available on both stringking.com and Amazon.com
    • The Jr has a shortened and narrower shaft (women's standard 7/8" vs men's 1"). This size has been good for teaching hand placement on the smaller and younger kiddos.
    • The head is secured to the shaft using a thru-bolt, therefore drastically reducing the possibility of head wobble.
    • The head is well strung with a good scoop and wide face.
    • Multiple players used my extra Jr and parents recognized the difference in ability and thus confidence, so they all went out and purchased one.
  • Signature Lacrosse Complete Jr - MSRP $70
    • Best Junior Lacrosse Stick For Boys Beginner Lax Players – Signature Lacrosse
    • This is a better price point. However, there is one feature we found strange, and kiddos didn't like. Their butt end cap is a finger ridge. While it is intended to teach kids to properly hold their stick, out of the gate it appears more of a distraction than aid.
    • The head is secured to the shaft similar to a faceoff head (back and sides), therefore drastically reducing the possibility of head wobble.
    • Legal through 10u
    • Available on both signaturelacrosse.com and Amazon.com
  • StringKing Complete 2 Intermediate - Attack - MSRP $130
    • The Best Complete Lacrosse Stick | All-Around Performance | StringKing
    • This is legal at any age, they recommend ages 10-14.
    • The shaft if standard length and diameter, therefore recommended for players 10+ or young kids with longer arm span
    • Available on both stringking.com and Amazon.com
    • The head is well strung with a good scoop and wide face.
    • The head is secured to the shaft using a thru-bolt, therefore drastically reducing the possibility of head wobble.

We tested three additional sticks: StringKing Starter Jr, Epoch Vision ID Jr Complete and STX Jr Complete. The StringKing Starter uses harder mesh and an older model head without the important thru-bolt. The STX had to have sidewall tightened and shooters redone, while the Epoch has hard mesh and since break-in takes longer, the bottom string and shooters needed adjustment.
